Bath for Birds

Not all people have birds as their pet. It is more common for people to take care of cats and dogs in their homes. However, for bird lovers out there, taking care of birds at home is the best decision that they have made in their life. It is not easy to take care of birds especially if it is your first time to do so. There are not enough articles online that you can read but there are some comprehensive ones which will really give you a step-by-step instruction on how to best care for birds. For example, how do you take care of the bird without letting it loose?

Here are some things that you need to know before you try taking your bird to a nice bath. First, you need to take note that a fresh water is all that you need. Make sure that the water is clean and it is free of debris and other chemicals that may cause poisoning to your pet. If you are using a tap, make sure that you have a filter which will remove the dirt from the water. Chemicals such as lead are very harmful to the health of birds. You need not use a soap because it will only irritate the feathers of your bird.

Similar to human beings, birds will react the same way when you first pour water into it. Showering your bird requires preparation. You need to test the water first before you introduce it to your pet so that you can be sure that the temperature is appropriate for it. Make sure that the water is not too cold nor too warm so that your pet will still be comfortable while you are pouring it to its body. Using the right temperature will make the bird look forward to its next bath.

You also need to control the location where you are going to take care of your bird. Ideally, it should be done in a place where it is warm and cozy so that your bird will feel comfortable. Also, it is important that you do it during the middle of the day so that they would not feel chilled. Also, after taking a bath, the temperature will not be too cold for them and their feathers will be able to dry quickly. Do not try to bathe them during the night because it is too cold.

Lastly, while bathing them, make sure that you touch them lightly so that their feathers will not be removed from their body. Remember that it is the only protection that they have for their body so do not try to remove it from them. After giving them a bath, give them a treat so that they would feel that they have done a great job. This way, they will be looking forward to the next one. Also, they would behave because they know that they will be getting a treat once it is done.
